IAAPA 2010

IAAPA, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, hosted its annual trade show in Orlando in the fall of 2010. I had the pleasure of attending as press to cover the haunt industry portion of the show for my website. There were some amazing products on display, so enjoy the pictures and videos below!

ScareFactory

ScareFactory had the largest booth out of all the haunt vendors at IAAPA. They had tons of animatronics out on display, had live demonstrations of cotumes, and even had a small walk-through hallway set up.

The walk-through hallway was called the 'Hallway 2 Hell', and it would make an awesome addition to any haunted maze, bringing a new dimension to hallway scares, and providing a much scarier alternative to spinning tunnel effects. The 10' long hallway can be programmed to pitch left or right, bounce, shutter, wave back and forth, or even collapse. It was a very impressive effect that I'd love to see utlized at Halloween Horror Nights in the future.

Unfortunately, due to my camera's limitations, I was unable to capture my own video of the 'Hallway 2 Hell', but I've included the promotional video from ScareFactory's Youtube channel below, as well a fewl other pictures and videos I took at the ScareFactory booth.

Pale Night Productions

Plane Night Productions didn't have the biggest booth, but they were showing off some pretty impressive video/animatronic effects. One of which, called 'Asylum Door' featured the ghost of a woman trying to break through a door with an axe, and leaving actual dents in the "metal" door as she tried to get escape.

Another display, called 'Zombie Attack' showed a zombie eating a dead body off in the distance through a window. Suddenly he spots you and sprints at the window. Just before he can leap through, he's shot in the head, and you're blasted with air and water. It was a very startling effect, and really improved upon the typical video effects we've seen in previous Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses. You can view videos of both effects below:

AlterFace

Finally we take a look at AlterFace. They specialize in interactive cinema attractions, and had a model of a really cool 4D haunted attraction on display. They call it 'The House', and its the combination of a haunted house, a 4D motion theater, and a dark ride.

Riders start off in what appears to be a typical 3D theater, armed with revolvers, and begin their mission. The theater is situated on a large rotating platform, and can spin the riders to 3 locations, which can either be 3D movie screens or themed show scenes. Riders are also subject to interactive scenery, water and air effects, smells, and even have their photos taken and displayed for rankings.

All in all, IAAPA was an incredible event, and covers way more than just the haunt industry. To check out more pictures from the show floor, you can visit my IAAPA 2010 set on Flickr:
